Passing the Spider Guard
This technique works with either gi or no-gi, and is suitable for intermediate level practitioners. Broadly, this technique is in the escapes category of moves. Specifically, it is a guard move. You will start in in the kneeling or kneeling inside guard position.
Setup: The Initial Situation
He is holding you in spider guard, with our without gi
Turn your wrists in to the center so your palms are facing the back of his legs near the calf
Press your hands and hips in to crowd his legs
As soon as his feet pop off your arms, press to one side to pass his guard.
